DSS Summer Music Programs

Summer is a great time to advance on an instrument while having fun!  If you don’t already have plans for your young musician this summer, consider lessons or classes offered through Darien Summer School.  All classes are designed to be fun and rewarding.  Children who continue on their instrument through the summer can gain up to a year of experience.  For more information, visit www.dariensummerschool.com.

Summer Strings is an orchestra experience for string students entering grades 4-6. Miss Minnis conducts a daily orchestra rehearsal from 8:30 to 10:30, with a different musical theme each week. On Friday mornings, the students give concerts for family and friends. (June 23-July 25, 8:30-10:30 am)

Summer Band Lessons with Mr. Knecht are for students entering grades 4-12 who are continuing with their current instrument or looking to start a new one. The lesson schedule is designed with your schedule in mind, meaning half-hour lessons can be arranged around your other summertime activities. All lessons will be on Mondays between 1:00 and 4:00; additional days may be offered as enrollment increases.

Summer Jazz Workshop with Mr. Curley will help students in grades 5-12 experience making music through creative jazz improvisation. A friendly, inclusive approach will accommodate beginners through advanced students and develop and encourage the skills necessary to become creative musicians. Students will engage in daily “jam” sessions, create original songs, explore their individual style, listen to master creative musicians, perform with professional musicians, and much more. The class is one week, and there will be a final performance on Thursday, July 10. (July 7-10, 1:00-4:00)
